MT4 Forex Trading and Mac Computers

But over the past few years, I have had one major gripe with it – that it has not been available for Mac computers. Yes, as you may have guessed, I am a Mac user, and in order to trade off of MT4, for the past few years, I have had to use a VPS (virtual private server) to access a PC computer via my Mac and use MT4. This is not cheap, and costs around $200-300 per year – which puts your trading capital at a loss before you have even started.

However, there is good news. Just recently, several forex brokers have started to develop stand-alone packages for trading forex on MT4 via a Mac computer. One of these brokers is the broker that I use – Australian firm Go Markets. These guys were in fact one of the first brokers to offer this service (and about time too!), and perhaps set the ball rolling with other brokers.

It is a simple download and (through the use of a PC emulator called ‘Wine’) once it is installed, MT4 looks exactly as it does on a PC, and the functionality is as it should be. It is also a little quicker to operate than it is on a VPS (as a VPS requires a connection between two computers, and there is often a small time delay). While there have been a few teething problems since this first came out, it does seem that these problems have now been resolved, and perhaps now is the right time to start using MT4 on your Mac computer. So if the fact that you have a Mac has been the only thing stopping you from trying to trade the forex markets, then you now have a green light.
